Wow I'm Smokin'!!

Well I'm not cos it makes me cough, smells awful and is very bad for your health!! But what I meant is that I've now finished cutting out the small size samples of my second colourway of fabric. So now I can finish constructing the wishes and send them out to the people who wanted two different fabric squares :-)

I decided to finish the job, and address the envelopes I needed, only to find I hadn't enough complete wishes to send!! Had an hour or spare this afternoon (Little Miss Sensible took Little Prince out) so I finished up all the partially made wishes, and made some spares, ready for next time. And now I've got six more Squishes ready to be posted in the morning :-)

Squish Six

A new day and a new Squish :-) Its lovely and I'll be posting a picture later :-)

I love the attention to detail and creative use of the fabric's pattern that has gone into making the wish. Its beautiful, and has been sent from Quebec, Canada - merci Isabelle :-)

Someone likes my squish :-)

Someone on OHGWQ yahoo group has received the squish that I sent her and she likes it YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

I have been SOOOOO worried that I've done it wrong - sent the wrong fabric, made the wish wrong or done something inept and stupid as I'm so new to this - it is such a huge relief to find that my squish is ok :-)

More Fabric Cutting

After keep putting off cutting out my second fabric, I am finally about to get on with it!! Its the same fabric as the one I've already got cut out, but a different colourway. Some of the swap offers I've got would like to receive two different fabrics, so I need to stop putting it off and actually get it cut out!!!

UPDATE: I actually got on with it this time, with only a little prevaricating and checking of the internet in between squares :-) I am pleased to say that my second batch of fabric squares is now neatly cut and waiting to be sent out :-) Tomorrow's job is to cut the small 'samples' that will be stuck to the wishes. Then I will be able to get my second batch of squishes sent out :-)

I've gone Postal :-)

I've just got all my completed Squishes in the post. I'm an official 100 Good Wishes Quilt swapper now :-) Although now I'm starting to get very nervous that I will have done something wrong - the fabric won't be right, or the wish won't be right or something!!!

It was a lot more hard work than I envisaged getting the Squishes ready to post, I'm hoping I'll be more organised next time!! At least I can always hope that lol :-)

Squish number 3

Received another Squish in the post this morning. Its like Christmas getting all these surprises in the post :-)
This lovely Asian print fabric has come all the way from Levelland, Texas. Thank you so much Angela :-)

Squishes Produced :-)

I have just cut out 44 squares of fabric and 44 corresponding little pieces of fabric, to be placed on the wish card. So I can now get some posting done :-) Tomorrow night I'll cut out the other colourway of my fabric, and then at least I will be a bit more organised for some more swapping :-) It feels really good to have FINALLY got to this stage :-)

And I've just addressed 16 envelopes and stuck the little fabric sample to the wish card :-) Tomorrow's job is to fold the actual fabric squares into the envelopes and get them all in the post.

This is all exciting - I'm joining the world of Quilt Swapping :-)

Squish number 2 arrived today :-)

I received my second Squish in the post this morning. It came all the way from Puerto Rico, thank you Tinin, its lovely :-)

I thought things were going too well!

I went into mega Wish Production and managed to get over 20 wishes completed tonight :-) I was all pleased with myself, thinking I can get them in the post first thing in the morning!! Ha!! I'd completely forgotten I haven't cut out the fabric squares!!! I suppose that long break to watch a couple of Billy Connelly programmes didn't help either!! So now tomorrow (well its tonight's job as its already past midnight!!) night's job is to cut out the squares and samples for on the wish. Hopefully, barring me forgetting something else vital, they will finally be ready to post on Tuesday morning!! Keep your fingers crossed just in case!!!

Received my first Squish :-)

I received my first Squish (square of fabric and wish) this morning. It was a lovely surprise to receive it and here is the photo. I've decided to try and include pictures of the stamps too as they are so pretty :-)
Thank you Susan :-) for my very first Squish all the way from San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any Squish production done today, as we spent the day in Wales at our nephew's birthday party, and its been such a long day I'm tired out!! But receiving these first Squishes has inspired me to get on with finishing my own :-)

Finally back in production!!

Luckily Little Prince only had a 24 hour bug, and was much better today :-) So tonight I decided to get back into Squish production. I've now ironed the fabric. I'm going to make a template (sewing pattern type) to cut the squares, I think that would be easier and more accurate as I'm cutting using scissors. And then once I've done that and got the required squares cut out ready, I'll need to get the wishes finished too. I think I'm probably going to be able to post my first batch out on Monday :-)
UPDATE: I've made the template. And I've cut out all the 'words' to be used in the Squish production. So this weekends work will be cutting out the fabric squares and small piece for the 'wish' and to stick the words and decorations onto the wish cards.

No wishes tonight either!

I've only just started on this whole 100 Good Wishes Quilt swapping thing, and already I'm falling behind!! Little Prince was sick at tea time and needed snuggling to sleep in our bed. Although we did manage to get him into his own room later - much better if he is ill again as its got laminated flooring and a waterproof mattress cover!! I've been on pins all evening waiting for him to wake up being sick again and just couldn't concentrate on getting wishes constructed. Or anything else constructive for that matter. Oh well - tomorrow's a new day, as Chicken Little would say.

Tuesday 14 August 2007

No wishes made tonight

I've got all my supplies organised now. Printed out the wishes. But I'm too tired to actually put any more together tonight. I don't want to try doing them while I'm tired, and risk making a mess of them! So I'm leaving it till tomorrow night. Hopefully tonight Little Prince won't wake me up between 2am and 4am to put his covers back on him!! This has been going on for a few weeks now and its getting very very tiring!!

Bought more Wish Supplies

I've now got 11 people to sort out fabric squares and wishes for! So I've been out and bought more wish supplies, and a different sort of glue to stick fabric to card (hopefully!!) and tonight I can get on with more Wish Production :-)

Need to also iron and cut out the fabric, but I keep putting that off - I hate ironing!!!

Monday 13 August 2007

Wish Production!!

I've now had quite a few responses to my requests to swap 'quilt squares and wishes' so wish production is now well under way!! I can feel a trip to the local craft shop coming on - I'm going to need more supplies lol. I just wish my wishes were a bit more professional, but I suppose that will come as I get more practice :-)

Wishes

I've been constructing, arty, crafty wishes this evening. They are no where near as professional as some of those I've seen in my research. But they are better than a scribbled note on the back of an envelope too :-) No doubt as I do more of this I'll learn more and get better at it, well fingers crossed anyway :-)

My first post

I've (foolishly?? We shall see!!) decided to try my hand at making a 100 Good Wishes Quilt for our future child from China. There is, apparently, a tradition in Northern China that family and friends contribute cloth to make a child a quilted jacket. This was taken up by prospective China adopters and morphed into making a bed quilt from 100 pieces of fabric collected from family, friends and other prospective adopters.

I've joined a couple of online swap groups so far, and we'll see how it goes :-)

In anticipation of joining in this tradition I bought my fabric yesterday and it is now drying on the line. I have to wash it before doing anything else to it (to pre-shrink the fabric), then I have to iron it and then I have to cut the required size squares and send them and a wish to the people who have offered to swap with me. As I am cutting with scissors not a rotary cutter (next purchase - don't tell Mr Messy lol) I need to remember to cut the squares an inch larger than the size stated by my swapees.

I've seen other 100 Good Wishes Quilt Blogs and the wishes are very ornate, scrapbooked style, so no scribbling on the back of envelopes lol :-) Tonight's mission should I chose to accept it - start making wishes!! Makes me sound like some sort of fairy :-)
